More InformationPanels like this one, often showing heraldic themes, were a popular genre in seventeenth-century Switzerland and southern Germany. They were also a favorite collectible in nineteenth- and twentieth-century United States and England, sometimes incorporated into the architecture of collectors’ homes. Due to their popularity, modern reproductions flooded the market, imitating and often incorporating 17th-century glass in their design. This panel was given to the Wellesley College Museum in 1973 by Agnes Abbot, a German-born artist and professor at the College from 1933 to 1959.
