More InformationThe French-born Monnoyer studied history painting in Antwerp before arriving in Paris sometime before 1650. Soon thereafter, he collaborated with the French history painter Charles Le Brun on the royal châteaux of Marly, Meudon, as well as the Grand Trianon at Versailles. He became a member of the Académie in 1665 with a reception piece now titled Flowers, Fruit, and Objets d’Art (Musée Fabre, Montpellier). Monnoyer sent four examples of floral still life painting to the Paris Salon of 1673, and this soon became the genre with which he was most closely aligned.
