More Information

Lena Krasner, the first of five siblings to be born in America, was educated at the Women’s Art School of the Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design in New York. She worked in the mural division of the Federal Art Project/Works Project Administration of the New Deal and in 1937 began classes with Hans Hofmann. Married to Jackson Pollock in 1945, her long career was largely overshadowed by the success, notoriety, and dramatic death of her husband.
